Minimize Eczema Flare Ups This Summer With Some Key Tips!

FLARE UPS IN THE SUMMER
With the nice hot weather in the summer, we can see skin concern flare ups occurring in conditions such as Eczema.
Some tips we can look at are as follows.
- Stay Hydrated! Drink lots of water to help with moisture
- Eat cooling foods, reduce foods such as sugar, alcohol and fried foods
- Stress reducing techniques and adequate sleep
- Address allergies - Eczema can flare up to environmental allergies as histamine gets released. There are many natural therapies we can do at The Village Health Clinic
- Stay away from antiperspirant - you can look into natural deodorants
- Avoid fragrance as eczema skin is sensitive. Be careful when choosing sunscreen and choose ones that don't sting!
- Rinse off right away when swimming as chlorine can lead to irritation and dryness. Try and shower as soon as possible
- Be careful with strenuous activity and sweating in the summer. If you are exercising, be sure to rinse off right away
- Wear loose clothing
- Choose creams and supplements that keep moisture in and don't irritate the skin (ie. alcohol based). Consult with your Naturopathic Doctor for more direction on this
