Nurse Practitioners have advanced university education and provide personalized, quality health care to patients. They can work independently and in collaboration with other health care professionals. Ontario Nurse Practitioners provide a full range of health care services for all ages and across the health spectrum including: identifying and treating acute/chronic illness, order and analyze lab/diagnostic tests, prescribe medications and complete comprehensive health history and assessments.
In Ontario NP's are authorized to:
- Complete a comprehensive health history and assessment
-Formulate and communicate a diagnosis
-Prescribe all medications
-Order and interpret laboratory tests
-Order some diagnostic imaging
-Refer to specialists
- Admit, treat and discharge patients from hospital
-Dispense, sell, and compound medications
-Set and cast fractures and dislocated joints
